Land Harp (Hoosic Suite)

Recorded while Artist in Residence at the Studios at MASS MoCA in the Hoosic River which passes by the museum, a new unique piece will be available for listening each day. This will continue until the end of my residency period on 7/13/21.

Hoosic is a transliteration of the river's original Algonquian name. It can be translated either as "the beyond place" (as in beyond, or east of, the Hudson) or as "the stony place"

The Land Harp is an art installation instrument where piano wire is tensioned under moving water which vibrates the strings like a violin bow to create drone sound compositions. (more information here)
